Jewelry Care Tips-Our Top 6

We’ve put together a list of some of our top tips on how to keep your jewelry looking as beautiful as the day you got it!

From diamonds, to gemstones, to sterling silver, all jewelry requires a little extra care to keep your jewelry shining for years to come.

1. Keep away from moisture

Consider running an air conditioner or dehumidifier in the room that your jewelry is stored. You could also buy silica packets for your jewelry box to absorb excess moisture. Next, find a spot in your home with a consistent temperature. For example, don't put your jewelry rack right above a heat vent.

2. Remove when sleeping

When you roll over in your sleep, the prongs can catch on fabrics, which can wear them out. Sleeping with your jewelry on can also cause it to tarnish, as we sweat in our sleep, and the sweat that ends up on the jewels can dull their shine!

3. Remove before entering water

This is especially the case for chlorinated water! Always take off any jewelry before getting into a pool or taking a trip to the spa.

You should also remove your jewelry before showering; as even plain water can cause metal to lose its luster & gemstones to come loose.

4. Allow perfumes & lotions to dry before wearing

Your jewelry should be the finishing touch to your outfit – that means putting it on after you’ve applied your make-up and sprayed any perfume, hairspray or other beauty products. The chemicals in these products can damage your jewelry and reduce its luster, so avoid letting them come into contact with each other.

5. Remove when active

When you roll over in your sleep, the prongs can catch on fabrics, which can wear them out. Sleeping with your jewelry on can also cause it to tarnish, as we sweat in our sleep, and the sweat that ends up on the jewels can dull their shine.

6. Store in closed bag or box

Storing jewelry in a drawer is a good idea, as long as it's in a cool, dry location. In addition, the jewelry itself needs to be stored appropriately inside the drawer. For example, pieces should be separated and stored in their original bags or cases, or kept in a soft-lined jewelry box.
