What is a moissanite?
Because of how much it resembles a diamond, moissanites have become the most popular diamond alternative. The gemstone was originally discovered in a meteor crater, so it is literally born from the stars. Natural moissanites are extremely rare, so moissanites today are lab created. They are an eco-conscious gemstone with minimal environmental impact because they require no mining or harm to the environment.. Diamonds are the hardest known mineral and receive a 10 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness; a moissanite scores a 9.25 making it very suitable for everyday wear.
Does it sparkle like a diamond?
Both diamonds and moissanites are beloved for their beautiful sparkle, yet when viewed side by side, moissanites give off more fire. Sparkle wise, a moissanite has an even higher refractive index than diamonds, so it technically has more sparkle than a diamond. Moissanites have more of a rainbow sparkle, while diamonds emit a combination of colorless sparkle, rainbow sparkle, and flashes of light.
Do moissanites have clarity?
Clarity is a measure of the surface blemishes and internal inclusions of a gemstone. Moissanites are not sold unless the clarity grade is VS or above. This grade means that there are no visible flaws in the stone. Diamonds, on the other hand, can have flaws that can be seen with the naked eye.
